Lesson 70: The Basis of Battle

Where does victory come from? Sun Tzu considers victory a gift given by one participant in the competitive struggle to another. We cannot win victory unless we find an opening left by others. Victory comes from moving into that opening and advancing our position.
We take what our opponents give us. It is a free choice. The role of choice in our interactions in a free economy is obvious. All actions in free markets are voluntary. As customers, we take what suppliers offer us. As suppliers, we take what our customers offer us. When we move into new territory, others must leave us an opening or opportunity to advance.
